Although Kathie is fairly new in the field of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder. Kathie herself, has been a person in long term recovery for more than 32 years. In 2020 Kathie started as a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate with FCA’s SHERPA Program, working one on one with people in crisis. Now at CN Guidance and Counseling Services, Kathie continues helping the community understand addiction through education and advocacy and has provided Naloxone training to more than 4000 individuals here on Long Island. www.cnguidance.org

Course Description:

We invite you to participate in a FREE training course that will teach you how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone (NARCAN). After completion, you will be able to:

• Recognize the signs of an opioid overdose
• Demonstrate how to administer the opioid overdose reversal drug naloxone
• Discuss the role of harm reduction in the overall opioid public health crisis solutions / action plan / strategy
• List a minimum of three overdose prevention tips for people who use drugs
